Welcome to IRTNOG.ORG!

by Matthew X. Economou last modified 2006-12-19 15:44

...a big hello to all intelligent life forms everywhere... and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys.

The primary purpose of IRTNOG.ORG, a private experimental network, is to facilitate research in advanced computer science and information systems topics, particularly in the field of information security. The resources afforded its users and the services made publicly available are intended to advance the state of the art. The IRTNOG.ORG system operators believe that these tools and documentation promote individual and organizational safety, and that in general, professionals and scholars worldwide significantly expand their knowledge by accessing, using, and contributing to networked information resources and by collaborating in the public domain.

Using Plone

Log in using your IRTNOG.ORG user name and password, and use the Add to folder menu to create folders and put content in those folders.  Folders will show up in the navigation box if they are published.  Most content types are automatically indexed and fully searchable.  It is a very simple and powerful system.  When adding or editing content, please consider the following guidelines:

  • Use informative titles and descriptions for content, as this improves the efficacy of the built-in search engine.
  • Use the structured text document format for plain-text page edits.  If writing documents in HTML instead, make certain to use valid XHTML and CSS. An in-page WYSIWYG editor is available; on the Personal Preferences page, choose Kupu from the drop-down box under Content Editor.
  • One can use any locally installed text editor to edit content via the Zope ExternalEditor product (installation instructions for the Windows client, the Unix client; a separate native Mac OS X client is available).  This program will launch the file-type-specific editor of the user's choosing when they click on the (pencil) icon. Text editors such as GNU Emacs (Windows port), BBEdit, or TextPad support editing structured text and HTML, but one can also use programs such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Frontpage.  By default, ExternalEditor will use the Windows file type associations to pick which editor to launch.  On the Personal Preferences page, click the checkbox labeled Enable external editing.
  • Upload Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Adobe PDF documents using the exfile file (PloneExFile) type. This will cause Plone to index the document's content. Unfortunately, uploaded files cannot be edited in place via ExternalEditor at this time. To change the contents of an uploaded file, save the file locally, make the edits, and re-upload it in place.
